In the past few years, the popularity of lip fillers has skyrocketed. They are an easy and quick way to add instant volume and definition to your lips by changing their shape to even out unbalanced smiles, hide a gummy smile or just add fullness where you think it’s lacking.

At Dr Bawa Skin & Facial Aesthetics, you’re in safe hands with us. Our personal yet professional approach to your treatment will help you to achieve your desired results.

In this blog post, we’ll answer some of the most commonly asked questions regarding lip fillers, in order to give you information that’ll help you decide if this treatment is for you.

What are you actually injecting?

Each Doctor has their own preferred injectable they think will provide the best results. At Dr Bawa Skin & Facial Aesthetics, Dr Bawa prefers to use premium products such as Juvéderm. It’s advanced, safe and actually contains a local anaesthetic! This means that as he is injecting the filler, he is continuously applying an anaesthetic, making the procedure extremely comfortable and pain free. Lip fillers are a temporary and natural hyaluronic acid. Your body naturally creates hyaluronic acid, meaning your body doesn’t reject the substance. It isn’t harmful in anyway.

What if I’m unhappy with the results?

One of the most attractive things about hyaluronic acid is that it isn’t permanent! If you’re unhappy with your results, Dr Bawa can administer a dissolvent, which will dissolve the hyaluronic acid within five minutes. This factor is a big reason why the treatment is so popular! Permanent and semi-permanent lip fillers are tempting, but they are not reversible. This means that one your swelling has gone down and you see your new lips, if you’re unhappy there is little that can be done to fix them or reverse the process.

How quickly will I see the results?

The results of your treatment will be visible almost instantaneously! However, these won’t be your final results and are often much more swollen than the final results. The swelling will go down after around 24 hours, but your final results will be visible once this swelling has gone down and you’ll see your new lips!

What does the treatment feel like?

Numbing cream is provided of course, to minimise any discomfort or pain. Usually, the procedure is described as feeling like a pinch, as the needle is inserted into the lips. As the hyaluronic acid is being injected, some patients have said that part of the treatment can sting. But as a whole, the treatment is in no way painful – more so a discomfort!

How long will I need to book off work?

Absolutely no time at all! A brilliant thing about many non-surgical procedures is that there is no down time required. Lip filler treatment takes around 15-20 minutes, and after that you’re free to go about your everyday activities!

What does the aftercare involve?

There is some aftercare involved. Although lip fillers require no dedicated, recovery time, it is still a cosmetic procedure which requires you to pay care and attention to the treated area. Following Dr Bawa’s aftercare tips will maximise the amazing results from your treatment. We recommend avoiding excessive rubbing of the area for at least 24 hours, avoiding exercise for at least 24 hours, do not use any sun beds or expose the treated area to direct sunlight for at 3-4 days. You are happy to return to your normal makeup routine, but it’s best to take care when applying pressure to your lips.
